Referred to as The City of Churches Adelaide is an ideal place for international travellers to visit, populated by over one million people. While not being as big and busy as Sydney or Melbourne, Adelaide has its own definite charm and style, a place to be savoured and enjoyed at one’s own pace. Unlike many of Australia’s other cities, Adelaide was founded by free settlers with the site being chosen in 1836. Establishing a dignified cityscape, during construction the colonists used pale sandstone which reinforced the buildings making them solid and sturdy. Surrounded by lush green parklands and the metropolitan area is bound by the hills of the Mount Lofty Ranges and bordered by the waters of the St Vincent Gulf, there is no denying that the city of Adelaide has a superb setting.
