Kangaroo Island
Kangaroo Island is seven times the size of Singapore, and literally crawling with wildlife. The koalas aren't being cuddled - they're relaxing at home in native trees. The seals aren't performing - they're lazing beside you on the beach.
Half the native bushland on Kangaroo Island remains just as it was when British navigator Matthew Flinders put a name to this untamed wilderness in 1802. And more than one-third of the Island is National or Conservation Park.
Situated on the northeast coast of the Island, Penneshaw is an attractive welcome for visitors arriving on the ferries. Visitors enjoy a wide selection of accommodation in Penneshaw or one of the surrounding bays. The Hog Bay Jetty is famous as a fishing spot. Penneshaw is home to a colony of Little Penguins with tours conducted nightly. Climb Cape Willoughby Lighthouse for spectacular views back to the mainland and the South Coast.
A narrow tidal channel, known locally as 'The River', separates Pelican Lagoon and Eastern Cove. This channel forms the Island's most protected harbour. The village nestles on the hillside in native bushland, offering superb views of Eastern Cove and the mainland. With the integration of bushland and accommodation, the nightlife in American River is naturally wild. Overnight guests at American River may enjoy an Alkirna nocturnal tour.
Kingscote is situated on the shores of Nepean Bay, with panoramic views of a boat-studded harbour. Kingscote is the island's capital and is a bright, bustling town of about 1,800 people. It is the centre of trade and commerce with banks, extensive shopping and services including cafes and hotels. Seawater aquarium and penguin tours are held nightly.

Often described as a typical Australian country town, Parndana is the hub for the heartland of Kangaroo Island. Centrally located, it provides convenient access to the north and south coasts and has a small shopping centre and bakery, a newly renovated community hotel and a museum.
The beauty of Kangaroo Island comes in many forms: views from seaside cottages and cliff-top cabins; delicate handcrafted glassware; a day at the races in Kingscote. And, of course, there's the wine and food. Take a drive and collect wine, cheeses, oysters and lobsters and indulge on a secluded beach. Fresh seafood is featured across the Island and seasonally you can enjoy a variety of natural and farmed produce such as oysters, prawns, crayfish, whiting, snapper and, not forgetting freshwater marron - it's so easy to get a taste for Kangaroo Island!
There are many beaches to swim at on Kangaroo Island, secluded rock pools to explore, deserted sandy beaches to walk along, limestone cliffs to clamber up, mountains to climb, rivers to explore and bays to fish in. Sailing, snorkelling and fishing charters are just a few ways to enjoy the water. Kangaroo Island is an Australian island resort that features mostly a mild temperate mild climate. Three to Four Days on Kangaroo Island is highly recommended if you want to see a good sample of what Kangaroo Island has on offer.
